What to put in the QR
The most practical option is a link to a page with your pet's name and your phone number, or a direct WhatsApp chat link (https://wa.me/ followed by your number in international format). Don't include your home address: whoever finds your pet just needs to be able to call you.
Size: this is the key
A tag is small, and on a 3D-printed QR each little square should be at least 1.5 mm with a 0.4 mm nozzle. So:
- Use the generator's "Keychain" shape at the minimum size, 50 mm, which already has a hole for the ring.
- Use a very short link: fewer characters means fewer modules and bigger squares. The generator warns you if the module drops below 1.5 mm.
- For small dogs or cats, 50 mm can be big: a plate attached to the harness may work better.
Material
It will get wet, scraped and knocked about: PETG handles water and sun better than PLA, and TPU (flexible) won't snap. Use high-contrast colors like black and white, with a matte finish.
Scan the tag with two different phones and check the link opens. And check the collar now and then: rubbing can wear down the relief.
